Jackson, MS – The announcement that Deion Sanders left the Jackson State Tigers football program after the Celebration Bowl in 2022 to become the new Colorado University Head Football Coach in Boulder Colorado, prompted many of the Jackson State Tiger football players that were recruited by Coach Sanders to rethink their collegiate football futures and enter their names into the transfer portal.
Two of the Jackson State Tigers at the wide receiver position Kevin Coleman Jr and Willie Gaines. Kevin Coleman caught 32 passes for 475 yards and 3 touchdowns. Coleman decided to enter into the transfer portal, transferred to Louisville University this past season, recording caught 26 passes for 362 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Willie Gaines 2022 season at Jackson State had 27 receptions with 446 yards with 5 touchdowns. Gaines decided to follow his former Head Football Coach to Colorado. Gaines didn’t have the type of season he envisioned while at Colorado University, as he did while at Jackson State. During the 2023 football season with Colorado University Gaines caught 2 passes for 12 yards playing in 5 games.
Kevin Coleman Jr, and Willie Gaines entered their names into the transfer portal before it closed on January 2nd so it will be interesting to see where both athletes take prowess to continue their collegiate football careers.
