Key Players to Watch in Grayson vs Sandy Creek Showdown

The Carswell Era at Grayson High School as their new Head Football Coach didn’t start the season off as anticipated against the North Gwinnett Bulldogs, losing 37-22 in the Corky Kell & Dave Hunter Classic.  Grayson High School’s offense found itself playing from behind through three quarters, down 29-0, after a Deuce Smith 53-yard pick-6 gave the Bulldogs a 29-0 lead.   The Rams were down 37-0 late in the third quarter until Grayson High School quarterback Deuce Smith threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to JoJo Watts.

Smith completed 17 of 27 passes for 288 yards, 3 touchdowns, and one interception.   The Rams will need to find a way to neutralize the Sandy Creek Patriots defense, which has multiple returning defensive players from their 2025 Georgia High School Football Class 3 State Championship team.  A few Patriot players to watch out for on the defensive line are JT Austin and Steven Hannon, who will provide the pass rush to pressure Smith throughout the game. The Rams’ standout returning offensive lineman from last season is Jordan Agbanoma, who will be the offensive line anchor, making sure his teammates are ready for a battle in the trenches against the Patriots’ defensive front.

The Rams’ defense must remain locked in for four quarters, paying attention to detail and maintaining their assignments, to prevent the Patriots’ dual-threat quarterback Caleb Hill from orchestrating what could be Grayson High School’s second loss of the season under their new Head Coach.  Grayson Rams defense won’t see two quarterbacks on the field at the same time this week against Sandy Creek, but their pass rush must maintain gap integrity, keeping Hill in the pocket with no running lanes that will allow him to use his feet to win the game.

If Rams quarterback Deuce Smith can get into an early rhythm with his receiving core of JoJo Watts, Cam Hurst, Saif Bin-Wahad, and Xavier Kinard against the Patriots’ defensive backs Nathan Holston and Corey Hadley Jr who will be looking to keep the Rams’ passing attack in check, this game will come down to who can be the most mistake-free.  Both teams have playmakers on each side of the ball; Sandy Creek’s Corey Hadley Jr, and Nathan Holston are both wide receivers and defensive backs, so we will find out which team’s playmakers stand out the most to secure the win this Friday at 7:30 pm at Sandy Creek High School Stadium.
