The Albany State University Golden Rams (2-2, 2-0) defeated the Allen University Yellow Jackets (2-2, 1-1) Saturday at C.F. Bolden Stadium in this SIAC matchup.
Albany State’s potent rushing attack was led by Jayden Threatts, who rushed for 228 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown. ASU Golden Rams quarterback Jeffery Davis passed for 177 yards, completing 13-of-19, two touchdowns, and added 3 rushing yards. The Golden Rams’ special teams, led by punt returner Cameron Watts ‘ 69-yard touchdown in the second quarter that gave the Golden Rams a 26-14 lead with a little more than three minutes left in the first half of the game.
The Yellow Jackets’ rushing attack proved to be just as potent behind their leading rusher Javis Floyd, who rushed for 110 yards on 18 carries and 2 touchdowns. Allen University Yellow Jackets quarterback Brent Upshaw Jr. passed for 210 yards, completing 17-of-29, two touchdowns, and one interception caught by Golden Rams Rontavion Scott. The Yellow Jackets fought back in this game. Down by 12 points with 2 minutes remaining in the first half, the Yellow Jackets got the ball back on an Albany State holding penalty before the punt, giving the offense some life. They capitalized on an 8-yard rushing touchdown by Jarvis Floyd to cut the lead to 5 points, making the score 21-26.

The Golden Rams extended their lead to 11 points in the second half, mixing their rushing and passing attack that used up plenty of clock. Albany State kicked two Johnathan Rodriguez field goals in the second half, making the score 32-21. Having abandoned the rushing attack that the Yellow Jackets had success with in the first half made things interesting late in the fourth quarter on a Talik Graham touchdown pass from Brent Upshaw Jr., making the score 28-32.
Allen University lost their first in-conference game while Albany State University remains undefeated. The Yellow Jackets face off against Savannah State in two weeks on October 3rd, and Albany State plays Kentucky State University in Albany on September 26 at Albany State University Coliseum.
