Houston, TX — The saga continues for Texas Southern University choosing a new Head Football Coach. The Board of Regents has met several times and is still unable to decide who will be named the 17th Texas Southern University Head Football Coach. The former Head Coach Clarence Mckinney contract expired on December 15th, 2023, with conversations heating up that a new head coach would be in place before Christmas.
Unfortunately, Christmas has come and gone with the Board of Regent being deadlocked on who will be named the new Head Football Coach. The winter transfer portal closed on January 2nd and signing day is rapidly approaching on February 7th, 2024.
Another meeting is believed to be scheduled this week and hopefully, a new head football coach will be named. Time is of the essence right now because for whomever the Board of Regents is looking to appoint to the position the new Head Coach will need to hit the ground running to recruit athletes into the program. The Board of Regents has been meeting on Thursdays. Hopefully, sometime on January 4th, there will be some clarity in the direction the University is looking to go with its football program for the 2024 football season.
