Miles College Lady Bears and Tuskegee Lady Tigers met for the third time this season with the SIAC Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship at stake. The Lady Tigers hoped to stop the Lady Bears from winning back-to-back SIAC Women’s Basketball Tournament Championships, while the Lady Bears had other intentions. Miles College went into halftime with an 11-point lead. The Lady Tigers’ defense made the necessary adjustments during halftime to cut Miles College’s lead to 7 points in the third quarter on 4 consecutive turnovers.
Miles College Head Coach Asmond’s defensive adjustments forced the Lady Tigers to shoot three-pointers because they couldn’t drive and penetrate the paint to make shots easier, allowing the Lady Bears to increase their lead to 14 points midway through the third quarter. Lady Bears Lemyiah Harris led all scorers with 24 points, Feliah Greer added 15 points, and Madison Lee added 12 points.
Tuskegee Triumphs Over Clark Atlanta in Key SIAC Matchup
The Lady Tigers finished the third quarter strong cutting the lead to single digits behind Hilani Cantone scoring 16 points and Cynaye Bobbitt adding 13 points, but Miles College’s defense helped increase their lead behind their zone defense. Miles College started playing a 2-3 zone defense, forcing Tuskegee University to move the ball around the court in hopes of scoring easy baskets. The Lady Tigers had opportunities to cut further into the lead, missing layups and scoring off turnovers.
The Lady Bears were able to keep their defensive pressure on the Lady Tigers in the 4th quarter, en route to becoming the back-to-back SIAC Tournament Women’s Basketball Champions. Miles College Lady Bears will play in the Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament waiting to see who their opponent will be next.
