Langston Hughes Dominates Newnan in 5A Friday Night Matchup

This Region 3 5A Friday night match-up between Langston Hughes (5-0) and Newnan High School (4-1) showcased the playmakers on both of these teams.  Langston Hughes’ physicality and speed were too much for Newnan in the game.  The Panthers have two running backs, Qwantavius Wiggins and  Carsyn Becker.   Qwantavius Wiggins was too much for the Cougars’ defense, rushing for three touchdowns of 43, 53, and 80 yards in the game.

The Cougars’ offense, led by quarterback Brodi Campbell, had inconsistent play on offense, preventing them from scoring any points in the game, even with Benjamin Roche’s interception of Panthers’ quarterback Darnell Kelly.  Newnan Head Coach Walker decided to go for it on a 4th and 1 in the second quarter, with 3:19 until halftime, but came up short, turning the ball over to Langston Hughes, with a 19-0 lead.  Panthers’ Head Coach Hines decided to make a quarterback change, bringing in Prince Amari Amanu.  The Panthers continued to run the ball with Carsyn Becker.

Panthers quarterback Prince Amari Amanu threw a pass to Chase Golson down the left sideline, who was able to take the pass in for a touchdown, increasing the lead 26-0. The game was delayed due to the weather in the area, with a little more than 10 minutes left in the game.  The Cougars went for it deep on their end of the field on 4th and 2, handed the ball off to Kari North, who was stopped by Panthers Aji Griggs, forcing the Cougars to turn the ball over on downs.

The game was delayed for a second time and finally ended because of lightning in the area.
