HBCU fans will see the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) 2024 Championship rematch game between Jackson State and Southern University. Southern University hopes to end the seven-game winning streak Jackson State has against them, dating back to the fall season of 2021.
Jackson State won last year’s Boom Box Classic matchup 31-15. These two teams met again in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship game, with the Tigers securing the victory 41-13. They moved on to win the HBCU National Championship game against the South Carolina State Bulldogs in the Celebration Bowl.

In this year’s matchup, expect a physical game by both teams. They will each try to establish their rushing attacks. This game will come down to which team can establish the line of scrimmage to allow their team to rush the ball. Jackson State averages 254 yards per game on 6 yards per carry. Southern University averages 6.5 yards per carry and 165 yards per game rushing the ball.
Both teams’ defenses are stingy against the run; whichever team can establish a consistent rushing attack should come out victorious in this matchup. Southern University will have to prepare for Tigers quarterbacks Jacobian Morgan and Jared Lockhart. Morgan was out of the previous game due to injury. Lockhart looked good in his first start against Tuskegee University, which will have Tiger fans wondering if they will see him play in this game.
Is this the year Southern University ends Jackson State’s consecutive winning streak? We will find out on Saturday at 6 pm
