Los Angeles, CA – People work hard for opportunities to come their way and sometimes their hard work doesn’t produce the outcome they expect, while looking for other ways to reach their goals. J.J. Redick has been looking to become an NBA Head Coach for some time and he is not the first person with no experience. The road traveled might be different than what some of the other first time head coaches had to travel. Redick was looking to get his first opportunity at becoming an NBA head coach with the Charlotte Hornets that fell through, and he wasn’t afforded that opportunity. Redick working as an ESPN analyst for NBA games and moonlighting on First Take and other various shows, like many of the coaches or players in the past would show their x’s and o’s expertise for the world to see, hoping it would catch the attention of someone at another NBA organization that would give them a chance. In this instance Redick and Lebron James put together a podcast that has a Detail kind of feel that Kobe Bryant had a few years ago. The show was loosely based on breaking downplays during games, giving insight on how to defend or make plays based on certain things happening on the court.
The masses will say Lebron James had Redick interviewing for the Lakers job during the podcast. There have been 12 other coaches without counting Redick that had no coaching experience and was hired by a NBA organization. Those who were hired I’m sure had a hand up in some way shape or fashion. Golden State Warriors from head coach Mark Jackson, had no coaching experience but was hired by the new owners of the organization. Matter of fact Steve Kerr who took over for Mark Jackson after he was fired had no coaching experience was the Phoenix Suns general manager. The warriors coaching job came available and Steve Kerr has won 4 NBA Championships and has not looked back.
Now it’s Redick’s turned to show the NBA world and all the haters that he can put his basketball acumen on a dry erase board and get the Laker players to buy into the brand of basketball he expects them to play. Redick is putting together a staff that will hopefully put the Lakers in a position to win another title soon, because the sand in the hourglass is almost empty when it comes to how long Lebron James will be playing in the NBA.
