ATLANTA, Ga – The Florida A&M Rattlers can bring back the eluding Celebration Bowl Championship Trophy to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) when they play against Howard University on Saturday, December 16th at noon on ABC. The last time a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) team won The Celebration Bowl Championship was in 2016 when The Grambling State Tigers Football team led by then Head Coach Broderick Fobbs defeated North Carolina Central 10-9.
These two teams have a long history of playing one another when they both were in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). They’ve played one another 40 times with the FAMU Rattlers getting the best of the Howard University Bison winning 27 of those times.
Let’s fast forward to the last seven times these two teams have played one another, and you will see, the Howard Bisons have beaten the FAMU Rattlers their former Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) program 4 of the last 7 times they have played another, but the Rattlers won their last meeting in 2019 39-7.
The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) is 1-6 winning the Celebration Bowl since its inception. Will this be the year that a Southwestern Athletic Conference team wins the HBCU National Championship title?
Something very intriguing about this matchup is these two teams were in the same Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) two years ago.
Imagine how much LOUDER FAMU will be BRAGGIN if the former Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) team that moved over to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) brings the Celebration Bowl Championship trophy back since 2016.
