Atlanta GA, The Class 3 A Division Georgia High School State Football Championship between Cedar Grove High School and Savannah Christian High School started as a heavy-weight battle with running back talent on both teams
Early on in this game was a heavy-weight fight between these two teams showing each team could take the other team’s best shot and come back to take advantage of the other team’s mistakes. Trading touchdown scores with the game tied 14-14. Savannah Christian quarterback Blaise Thomas threw two interceptions that would be critical in this game preventing the Raiders from recovering being down 14 points at halftime.
The Cedar Grove Saints Defensive front with Chase Kerns, Kyle Mosley, and Lamarcus Parks slowed down Savannah Christian Raiders running backs Zo Smalls and Jaden Miles running game forcing the Raiders to lean more on special teams getting good field position that would allow the Raiders to spread the Saints defense out to keep their rushing attack going. Zo Smalls rushed the ball for three touchdowns and Jaden Miles rushed for another for Savannah Christian.
Cedar Grove Saints built there 14 point lead from Boden Walker scoring on a rushing touchdown and Andrew Leslie scored on a 31 yard reception for a touchdown. The Cedar Grove Saints weren’t finished, they expanded their lead on the opening drive of the third quarter scoring on a 50-yard rushing touchdown by Boden Walker pushing the game further out of Savannah Christian’s reach. Savannah Christian continued to fight until there was no more time left on the clock scoring 14 points in the second half. Cedar Grove was too much for Savannah Christian making sure the score of this Georgia State High School Football Championship game wasn’t close securing the game to keep any controversy from coming into play. Unlike last season when Cedar Grove lost on a questionable call against Sandy Creek High School. The Cedar Grove Saints made sure they handled their business in this game to become the 2023 Class 3A Division Georgia High School State Football Champions.
