The Alabama State Lady Hornets (SWAC) were able to build themselves a 20 point lead in the first half against the Shorter University Lady Hawks (GSC) with the score being 40-20, The lady hornets prevented the lady hawks from getting second chance opportunities after missed shot attempts and out rebounded and shots being blocked. To further frustrate the lady hawks, the lady hornets forced them into turning over the ball 16 times in the game.
The lady hawks missed attempts shooting the ball, along with the number of turnovers, allowed this game to get out hand after it was tied 8-8 in the first quarter. The lady hornets continued to move the ball around the court finding open lady hornets to shot the ball scoring 5 unanswered points. Lady Hornets Shyma Ward lead the team in scoring with 27 on 13-14 shooting. Shyma Ward had 4 rebounds, 3 assist and 3 blocks in the game. Lady Hornets DaKiyah Sanders kept setting up her lady hornets team mates up during the game helping them expand there lead to 35 points in the second half. Sanders dished out 9 assisted, had 7 rebounds , 6 points, 1 block and 1 steal and Che’mya Carouthers score 12 points, 1 rebound and three assist.
The lady hornets smothering defense kept the lady hawks off balance preventing them from finding a rhythm for their offense to get back into the game. Ahtiana Benway posted 9 points for the lady eagles along with Tiara Lewis having 8 points. Alabama State will have a few days to rest to get themselves to play (SEC) Alabama on November 6th.
