“It’s hard for a team to beat someone three times in a row,” and Savannah State was hoping to do just that against Miles College in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Men’s Basketball Championship tournament. Each time these two team met this season, Savannah State beat Miles College by 11 points. Last night the Golden Bears turn the tables beating Savannah State 48-47. The Golden Bears was scoreless for the first 7 minutes of the game, while Savannah State established a 9-point lead.
Miles College erased the 9-point deficit with 7:40 left in the first half of the game. The Golden Tigers took their first lead of the game since the opening minutes with a go-ahead three-pointer with seven minutes left in the first half. The Golden Tigers ended the first half with a three-point lead on a put-back score by Jayquan Hickles. The Golden Bears had two players score double digits in the game, Tyon Thompson scored 14 points and 3 rebounds, and Isaiah Jones scored 10-points and 9 rebounds.
Savannah State was able to regroup after the half retaking the lead 38-37 with 9:45 left in the game on a three pointer by Tyon Thompson. Miles College crowd got behind them increasing their intensity and determination to keep from losing to Savannah State for the third time this season.

Miles College played with more intensity and determination to keep themselves from allowing Savannah State to establish a big lead that would exert more energy out of the team to win the game. Savannah State established another 3-point lead with over 8 minutes left in the game. Both teams went on a scoring drought for almost 4 minutes when Michael Swift scored a basket in the paint extending the Tigers lead to 5-points.

Under 2:30 left in the game, the Golden Bears’ Tyon Thompson scores on a three-pointer to cut the Tigers’ lead to 2-points, 47-45. The game is tied 47-47, when Savannah State Zyere Edwards missed a jump shot and fouled Miles College David Williams, who made 1 of 2 free throws, giving the Golden Bears a 1-point lead 48-47.
The Tigers attempted a last-second shot that came up short, and Miles College will be moving on to the next round of the SIAC Men’s Basketball Championship Playoffs and will face off against Morehouse College who they split their head-to-head match up with this season.
