Southern University has decided to part ways with second-year Head Coach Eric Dooley who took over the program after former Jaguars Head Football Coach Odums left for Norfolk State University’s head coaching position.
Coach Dooley inherited a Southern University football team with a 4-7 3-5 SWAC Conference record that had a lot of talent on the team who many thought should have been contending for a SWAC Championship.
Coach Dooley during his time at Southern University went 12-10 overall and 9-6 in SWAC play in his first two seasons. Currently this season the Jaguars 5-5 overall and 4-3 in SWAC Conference play. Receiving strong criticism from the Jaguar faithful it was only a matter of time before a change would happen. Southern University decided to part ways with Head Coach Dooley after losing their 3rd game by 7 points or less.
The Jaguars were favorites to win the SWAC West Division, but things never seemed to materialize with the talent of the Jaguars football team. When your team led the FCS in sacks last year much is expected because defense wins games, but the offense must score points.
Coach Dooley will be replaced by Coach Graves who will lead the Jaguars out to battle in the 50th Bayou Classic.
