This was a game of runs between Jackson State Tigers Men’s Basketball vs Missouri University. Jackson State Tigers Men’s basketball team has been up in their games early, but somehow fell short of securing a win.
Tonight, the Jackson State Tigers Men Basketball team was able to find a way to secure a win against the University of Missouri men’s Basketball team with their hustle at both ends of the court. Missouri started the game on a 5-0 run. Jackson State later went on a 4-0 run in the half. This game was so close throughout that whichever team made the least number of mistakes could very well come up with the win.
Jackson State found themselves down by as many as 8 points in the first half. Jackson State closed out the half being down 3-points. Both teams were fighting to see whose momentum at the half would allow them to continue building off that momentum to close out the game in the second half to secure the win.
University of Missouri Tigers leading scorer Nick Honor had 17 points, shot 3 of 9 behind the three-point line, 2 rebounds, 2 assists 1 block, and 1 steal. Caleb Grill had 15 points shooting 3 of 6 behind the three-point line 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block and 1 steal.
The Missouri Tigers got a spark off the bench behind Caleb Grill going 3 of 6 behind the 3-point line along with rebounds that helped the Missouri Tigers get rolling after Jackson State went on a 10-0 run early in the second half of the game. Missouri University went on a 7-0 run building an 8-point lead. Jackson State found a way to get that second wind to secure the win in this game, by beating Missouri University on generating steals.
Jackson State forced 11 steals in the first half, scoring 16 points. For the game, Jackson State forced 12 steals while the Missouri Tigers forced 7 steals. The biggest stat that stood out in this win against Missouri University was the turnovers. Jackson State turned the ball 13 times to Missouri 18 times.
Jackson State’s ability to force Missouri University into turning over the ball with 14 seconds left in the game allowed Jackson State to tie the game 71-71. Missouri missed a free throw in the game that will haunt them.
Jackon State Chase Adams scored the game-winning shot, putting Jackson State up 73-72 with 3 seconds left in the game.
Once again Jackson State was able to turn over Missouri University helping the Jackson State Tigers secure their first win of the season and it was against a Power 5 team.
