When the South Carolina State Bulldogs won the Celebration Bowl in 2021, the Bulldog fans were looking for their team to repeat as MEAC Champions in 2022 for a chance at repeating as the Celebration Bowl Champions again. It has been often said it is hard to win a championship during one season, but even harder to repeat as champions the next. The main ingredient in the recipe would be the South Carolina State Bulldog players staying healthy.
When your starting quarterback Corey Fields, gets injured along with defensive lineman Jeblonski Green. The thought of repeating seems a bit far-fetched unless the football gods are on your side from the start of the season until the end. Players who were second or third on the depth chart have begun to peak in the program showing the coaching staff they can be trusted with handling the duties of getting the job done on the field.
We can’t forget the Bulldogs lost a few key pieces from that 2021 Celebration Bowl team, wide receiver Shaq Davis, who has moved on to play in the NFL, and defensive back BJ Davis, who decided to transfer to East Carolina University.
Head Coach Buddy Pough is putting the MEAC and South Carolina State Bulldogs fans on notice that his team will be ready to compete for another MEAC and Celebration Bowl Championship with their starting quarterback Corey Fields leading the way.

Corey Fields, coming off that shoulder injury last season is looking for redemption this year, playing in 5 games last season, throwing the ball 93 times completing 41 for 511 yards, 6 touchdowns with 5 interceptions.
Coach Pough has the utmost confidence in Fields to run the Bulldogs’ offense, making the necessary plays for them to win the MEAC/SWAC Challenge game against Jackson State. Fields will be without his former big receiving target, Shaq Davis, but has found himself a new weapon in wide receiver Brown-Smith.
Jackson State will make sure they keep Fields in the backfield, forcing him to beat them with his arm. If the Tigers allow Fields to scramble outside the pocket, it will be a long afternoon for the Jackson State Tigers Football team. It will be interesting to see how the Bulldogs offense attack the Jackson State Tigers’ defense. Corey Fields is ready to show Jackson State he is ready for another round and looks to walk out of Atlanta with his South Carolina State Bulldogs team winning the MEAC/SWAC Challenge game.
