Second Quarter Surge sends Grambling State blowing past Southern University

Grambling ability to get out and run after securing a defensive rebound allowed them to extend and maintain their lead in this game.  Douthsine Prien led the way with 4 steals in the game to go along with 9 points 3 assists, and 4 rebounds and Aniijah Grant made her presence felt on the boards leading the team with 9 rebounds, to go along with 10 points and 2 blocks.

The fluidity in the Lady Tigers’ offense moving the ball around the court after securing a rebound kept the Lady Jaguars off balance because their switches on defense were a step slow providing Grambling State opportunities to drive and get easy layups or kick the ball out around the perimeter to shoot and score three-point baskets.

Southern tried to make a run late in the third quarter and throughout the fourth but was unable to get defensive stops against Grambling State.    DeMya Young led Southern University in scoring with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.  Anija Grant had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks.  Douthhsine Prien, had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals.

Southern found themselves down early in this game and Grambling State kept their foot on the gas making sure Southern didn’t have a realistic chance of going on a run to win the game 49-69.
