Howard vs FAMU: Anticipating the 42nd Orange Blossom Classic

The rivalry between Howard University and the FAMU Rattlers dates started in 1933 in their very first Orange Blossom Classic game with the Rattlers winning 9-6. These two teams have played one another 41 times, making August match-up the 42nd. The Rattlers hold a commanding winning record of 30-11 all time. One thing both teams fans can expect is a close game like the 2023 Celebration Bowl.

Howard University Head Coach Scott looks forward to getting his first win against FAMU after losing the HBCU National Championship game in a heartbreaking fashion 26-30.  The Bison football team was ahead for much of the game, with a golden opportunity to put the game out of reach late in the first half with another touchdown score because of Florida A&M’s offensive struggles moving the ball.  Unfortunately, the Bisons were flagged for a holding penalty that resulted in the touchdown being called back.  The Bison are seeking some revenge in this upcoming match-up in the Orange Blossom Classic on August 30th at the Hard Rock Café Stadium in Miami, Florida.

This will be the first time these two, as head coaches, will face off against one another in this rivalry matchup.  FAMU Rattlers Head Coach Colzie was a position coach under the former Rattlers Head Coach Willie Simmons.  FAMU Rattlers Head Coach Colzie, who is entering his second season, stated during the Orange Blossom Classic press conference that his team is working hard day by day to get the new players integrated into the Rattlers’ way.  There will be some new names and faces on the field when these two teams get ready to kick off the game, and both coaches will have their players prepared and ready to play.

Howard University Coach Scott is headed into his 6th season as the Bisons’ Head Football Coach, looking to get some satisfaction of beating a team that pushed his team into the jaws of defeat in the 2023 Celebration Bowl against the FAMU Rattlers.  Neither of the coaches gave any clue as to who the starting quarterback for the game would be, what we can expect from any of their playmakers, due to both teams losing significant players to the transfer portal or having no more eligibility to play.

This will be an interesting matchup between the two teams, and both fan bases can rest assured that their defenses will be competing on the field to secure the win.  I’m sure many of the FAMU Rattlers and Howard Bison fans remember the very first time these two teams played one another in the Orange Blossom Classic; the Rattlers won 9-6. Could we be in for another nailbiter?  Make sure you come out and support both teams because FAMU Rattlers Head Coach Colzie hopes to see 50,000 fans in the Hard Rock Café Stadium when the game kicks off.
