Tallahassee, FL – A week ago, the Florida A&M University (FAMU) Rattlers were crowned the 2023 HBCU National Champions winning the Celebration Bowl against Howard University 30-26.
Whenever a team is crowned the Champion of any sport, they become the hunted. Head Coach Willie Simmons understands and has already begun to reload the FAMU Rattlers football team for next season with players through the transfer portal.
The Rattlers have landed several transfers from 5 different Power 5 programs that want to be a part of what the FAMU Rattlers have going on the highest of 7 hills in Tallahassee, Florida. The Rattlers have added Daniel Richardson quarterback and A’Ceon Cobb wide receiver from Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Sage Ennis tight end from Clemson University, Amari Johnson from University of Central Florida (UCF), wide receiver Daeveon Walker from Vanderbilt University, running back Demorie Tate and Rodney Hill from Florida State.
Coach Willie Simmons and his coaching staff have picked up some valuable pieces at multiple offensive positions for next season thus far. The Rattlers will be without quarterback Jeremy Moussa, WR Nick Dixon, WR David Manigo, WR Jah’Marae Sheread, WR Marcus Riley, LG Kardell Thomas, and RT Morgan Moore, who were grad students in the program this past season. Coach Simmons and his coaching staff have gotten off to a good start with their recruiting efforts for the program selecting players that will be able to help them defend their crown starting when the 2024 football season begins.
The Rattlers coaching staff aren’t taking their foot off the gas, making sure everyone know it’s THEIR TIME. The transfer portal window closes on January 2nd, 2024, preventing athletes from entering their names into the transfer portal. National signing day is on February 7th 2024 and the transfer portal re-opens on April 15th, 2024. Rattler fans get ready to see more new faces looking to become apart of the Rattler FAMULY.
