Birmingham, Al – The SWAC Basketball Tournament has begun, and we have Florida A&M vs Grambling State women’s basketball starting things off. Both teams had a hard time scoring baskets in the first half. The FAMU Rattlers had 12 turnovers in the first half which allowed Grambling State to have a 6-point lead at the half. The FAMU Rattlers were looking to have another fantastic game by Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Year Ahriahna Grizzle to lead the team to the second round of the SWAC Tournament.
Unfortunately, FAMU Ahriahna Grizzle had a round day shooting the ball going 7-20 from the field, and 0-4 behind the three-point line. Grizzle scored 16 points with 1 rebound, 5 assists, and one steal. Olivia Delancy was the second-leading scorer for the Rattlers in this game, scoring 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. The Rattler’s turnover woes in the first half gave Grambling State opportunities to score points off those turnovers to secure a lead in the first half.
The Rattlers continued to struggle with turning the ball over in the second half allowing Grambling State to hold onto the 6-point lead they had at the end of the first half to go on and win the game, behind their leading scorer Anijah Grant who scored 14 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block for the Lady Tigers. Jordyn Carter had 12 points and 3 rebounds. Brenda McKinney provided Grambling State with those extra opportunities to score off turnovers causing 5 steals in the game. The Lady Tigers will move on to the next round and wait to find out who is their next opponent in the SWAC Basketball Tournament.
