Baltimore, MD – Coppin State Lady Eagles was able to get a 2-point lead early in the game before the University of Maryland Eastern Shore found themselves getting into a flow of moving the ball around the court looking to get their teammate a wide-open shot to score points.
The Lady Hawks of Maryland of Eastern Shore were able to build an 11-point lead at the half, but the Lady Eagles of Coppin State were not to be denied and continued to scratch and claw their way back into the game. The Lady Hawks leading scorer in the game was Ariana Seawell who scored 18 points going 6-10 from the field, Mya Thomas had 12 points, Ja’la Bannerman had 9 points and Mahogany Lester had 8 points in the game.
Late into the 3rd quarter, the Lady Eagles were able to erase the 14-point lead and get a two-point lead of their own. The Lady Eagles shot high-percentage shots, driving the ball to the basket, getting fouled by the Lady Hawks players sending them to the free-throw line as a team they shot 27-38 in the game.
The Lady Eagles had three players who scored double digits in the game. Angel Jones led the team with 21 points going 9-11 from the free throw line, Laila Lawrence had 19 points going 7-14 from the free throw line and Faith Blackston had 17 points going 7-8 from the free throw line.
The Coppin State Lady Eagles were leading by 3 points with less than 2 minutes to go in the game, after being down 11 points at half time. Coppin State, Angel Jones was able to hit 2 free throws to put Coppin State went up 3 points with less than a minute to go in the game. Angel Jones was fouled again after getting the defensive rebound making 2 more free throws that put the Lady Eagles up by 5 points with 9.5 seconds left to go in the game. Coppin State came away with the victory in this game against University of Maryland Eastern Shores 75-69.
