March madness has many fans upset their brackets are busted because the Cinderella teams are coming up short. Norfolk State University faced Maryland University this past weekend and the Lady Spartans had the Lady Terrapins back against the wall in the first half of the game. The Lady Spartans gave a valiant effort in the first half with their hard play with a 2-point lead. Could this be because of the rumors that was surrounding their Head Basketball Coach Larry Vickers leaving the program for another job?
The Lady Spartans of Norfolk State fell short against Maryland University ending their run in the NCAA run in the tournament having to face the questions of whether their coach is moving on to another program. Larry Vickers has made his decision and will be moving onto Auburn University to continue his collegiate Women’s Basketball Coaching career.
Coach Vickers while at Norfolk State has a record of 177-99 through 10 seasons 9 as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach with the program. Something that can’t be denied when talking about Coach Vickers and his accomplishments while at Norfolk State University, he’s won 4 Mideastern Athletic Conference Championships (MEAC), 3 MEAC Coach of the Year Awards, just to name a few. For a coach to have that kind of success with those types of accomplishments, the work behind the scenes that fans don’t see when it comes to player development, strategy and preparation.
