The Los Angeles Clippers are making moves to stay competitive in the Western Conference after their in-state rival, the Los Angeles Lakers, made a blockbuster trade for Luka Dončić. With the Lakers acquiring Dončić by sending Anthony Davis and Max Christie to the Mavericks, the Clippers responded by adding Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills from the Utah Jazz. While Mills and Eubanks may not have the star power of Dončić, their skill set could be a valuable asset to the Clippers’ offensive strategy.
Eubanks, averaging 5.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game, is currently shooting an impressive 60% from three-point range this season. A career 40.4% three-point shooter, Eubanks provides much-needed floor spacing for a Clippers team that currently ranks 25th in three-point shooting. His ability to stretch the floor will force opposing defenses to respect his outside shot, preventing teams from clogging the paint and allowing more space for the Clippers’ playmakers.
Patty Mills will be an asset to the Clippers while they try to make a surge in the West because of his Championship pedigree and knowing how to keep the flow of the offense going during pivotal moments in the game.
The Clippers’ offensive flow has been a concern, as the ball has tended to stick on one side of the court. Eubanks’ presence could help unlock their offense by creating better spacing and ball movement. With the Western Conference standings tightly packed—only 5.5 games separating the No. 2 and No. 6 teams—the Clippers are positioning themselves to make a strong push. If Eubanks continues to perform at a high level, he could be the under-the-radar acquisition that helps the Clippers climb the standings and contend in the West.
