The Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman Head Coach Woodie has named his starting quarterback for their upcoming home game opener against Edward Waters this weekend. Coach Woodie announced that Cam’Ron Ransom will be the Wildcats’ starting quarterback during the 2025 SWAC Football Head Coaches Media Session on September 15th, after leading the team to score 41 points against South Carolina State this past weekend. Ransom completed 20 out of 30 passes for 302 yards, 4 touchdowns, adding 11 rushes for 78 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Wildcats were down 27-0 in the second quarter when Cam’Ron Ransom was inserted in the game, leading his Wildcats offense down the field to score on a 2-yard quarterback keeper to end the 27 unanswered points scored by South Carolina State in the game. Coach Woodie discussed Ransom’s leadership on the sideline, cheering his team on even when he wasn’t in the game. The Wildcats’ offense was nonexistent before Ransom came into the game. Ransom’s dual-threat ability forced the Bulldogs to play the run and the pass, which allowed them to drive the ball down the field. The Wildcats had an opportunity to cut the South Carolina State Bulldogs’ lead to 14 points deep in the red zone, but the Bulldogs forced Ransom to fumble the ball into the end zone, which was called a touchback, ending their drive. The Wildcats lost their 3rd straight game this season to South Carolina State University 55-14.

The Wildcats’ offense proved they can generate points in a game, but they must find a way to start fast and prevent turnovers in games. The turnovers and penalties in games have kept the Wildcats behind the chains, ending scoring drives and forcing them to fight an uphill battle against opposing teams. The Wildcats will be playing SIAC opponent Edward Waters University in their season opener at home this Saturday, September 20th.
