Brian Jenkins Leads Edward Waters to Championship Aspirations

The last time Edward Waters had an undefeated season was 1964, when it went 9-0 and won the Southeastern Athletic Conference (SEAC) Championship.  The Tigers’ last winning season was 2004.  Is this the year that Edward Waters stays undefeated or has a winning season that leads to playing for the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference  (SIAC) Championship?   First, they must beat Bethune-Cookman University Wildcats this Saturday in Daytona Beach, Florida, to keep their unbeaten record intact. The SIAC preseason order of finish had the Tigers finishing eighth within the conference this season.   The newly named Edward Waters Head Football Coach, Brian Jenkins, knew something that doubters are beginning to see firsthand: the Tigers have play-makers on their team.

The Tigers transfer quarterback Noah Bodden from Southern University is showing what fans from Grambling State University and Southern University were expecting to see him do on the field, playing for their program.  Through three games, Bodden has completed 53 out of 90 passes for 729 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 1 rushing touchdown. The Tigers’ offense is averaging 42.67 points per game thus far this season, thanks to the offensive play-calling expertise of Coach Dooley, who previously served as the offensive coordinator at Grambling State University.

The Tigers’ newly named Head Coach Jenkins looks to keep their unbeaten record intact this week, as he will be coaching against his former Bethune-Cookman football program, where he amassed a record of 46-14 with a 76.6 winning percentage from 2010-2014.  Offensive Coordinator Coach Dooley, the former Grambling State offensive coordinator, lost a close game against Bethune-Cookman last season and would enjoy nothing more than to hand the Wildcats their fourth loss of the season, becoming the second SIAC football program to beat the Wildcats in the past two seasons.

The Tigers sit at the top of the SIAC with an overall record of 3-0 after beating the #13-ranked Virginia Union University football team from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) last week 41-38. Edward Waters, coming off a big win, must remain poised and focused playing at the competitive level they have played thus far this season.  The naming of Jenkins as the new Head Coach of the Edward Waters University football team will give his Tigers team more motivation to beat Bethune-Cookman this Saturday.  Bethune-Cookman and Edward Waters will kick off this Saturday, September 20, at 3 pm.
