Albany State came into the game against Miles College losing the last two games. The first was to Allen University 27-39 on homecoming and the following week to Edward Waters on their homecoming 27-31. After those two losses, Albany State mindset was getting their players back healthy to finish out the season strong and playing spoiler to any team that had a possibility to play in the SIAC Championship.
Miles College came into Albany State looking to keep their Championship aspirations intake with getting a win over the Albany State Golden Rams. Unfortunately, Albany State had other plans for the Golden Bears of Miles College looking to play spoiler since they were a team on the outside looking in to hopefully have a chance to play for the SIAC Championship if they win out.
Dionte Bonneau Albany State Golden Rams starting quarterback on the day had 29 attempts, completed 15 for 262 yards 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception, and rushed the ball 8 times for 89 yards 1 touchdown, along with Aljhanod Thomas who had 7 rushes for 74 yards and 1 touchdown. Frederick Gaines also rushed for a touchdown for the Golden Rams in this game. Albany State wide receiver Ralph Lovett III led his team onto a lopsided victory against the Golden Bears of Miles College with 5 receptions for 154 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Edwin Klienpeter for the Golden Bears went down early in the game and didn’t return. Kam Ivory took over as the leading signal caller for the Golden Bears had 32 attempts, 14 completions for 165 yards and 2 interceptions.
Albany State jumped on the scoreboard first with a field goal midway through the first quarter and tacked on a touchdown to increase their lead to 10-0. Miles College wouldn’t go away that easy, they drove the field scoring a touchdown to cut the lead to 3 points 10-7.
The Golden Rams was quickly reminded of how they lost games the past two weeks by not finishing a team when they had the chance and went on to score 31 points straight making sure the Golden Bears couldn’t come back in the game and taking all hopes to play in the SIAC Championship game away.
Albany State University plays Fort Valley State University in the Fountain City Classic and Miles College Plays Tuskegee University on November 4th.
