This Saturday match up between Southern University and Florida A&M was a bit sloppy. Florida A&M Quarterback Jeremy Moussa didn’t help the case of fans wanting a quarterback change. FAMU Rattlers Head Coach Willie Simmons took action in quieting down those who feel a quarterback change is necessary. Moussa play early in the game didn’t help his Coach any, with the errant mistakes he made on the field, throwing a pass down the field after he was beyond the line of scrimmage, just to provide context with the frustration rattlers fans are having with the quarterback. Moussa threw the ball 53 times completing 31 for 325 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Southern University had opportunities to extend there lead against FAMU in this game. Unfortunately the missed extra point and the blocked extra point in the first half positioned FAMU to go up 16-12 at the half. Southern University drove down the field to go up by three points on a CJ Russell one yard run with the extra point being good to retake the lead 19-16 in the fourth quarter. Head Coach WIllie Simmons and the FAMU Rattlers were not going to be denied in this game, score the last 10 points of the game on Gillis 44 yard field goal make and Jamari Gassett touchdown down pass to win the game. FAMU defense showed up in this game in critical moments with the blocked extra point and returning it for two points was huge.

Southern University Coach Dooley stated the run was working going into the second quarter. As a team, the jaguars ran the ball 35 times for 125 yards averaging 3.6 yards per carry. Southern University Gary Quarles led the team with 13 carries for 80 yards. The rattlers saw the jaguars running game was working and started having the outside linebacker crash down the line of scrimmage, running the jaguars running backs down from behind for minimum gain.
Southern University defense tried to keep the jaguars in contention with there aggressive play in the game, unfortunately when a play needed to be made by the jaguars defense, the rattlers were able to find that play that would put them over the top to win this game. If Southern University is looking to play in the SWAC Championship by winning out, if not we will see another team representing the west division.
