Las Vegas, NV – The Seattle Storm showed the back-to-back WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces, they found the recipe to slow down their offense by packing the paint with storm defenders while taking advantage of the good shot opportunities they were able to get throughout the game. The Storm was able to get an 18-2 advantage in the first half, scoring points in the paint.
The Seattle Storm looked like they were a step faster getting to lose rebounds allowing Skylar Diggins-Smith to drive and kick passes to storm players cutting to the basket in the paint. Nneka Ogwumike, eight-time all-star and former WNBA MVP in her first season with the Seattle Storm, is adding to her illustrious career by reaching the 6,000 points plateau, that only 14 other players outside of herself have been able to do. On the night Ogwumike had 12 points 11 rebounds, along with Jewel Loyd who had 25 points and 9 rebounds. Loyd was able to set a WNBA record of her own scoring 5,000 points in her career making her the 25th player in WNBA history to reach this goal.
While the Seattle Storm players were setting records in this game A’ja Wilson tried to keep her Las Vegas Aces team close to try and get the win with 29 points and 11 rebounds, unfortunately, Seattle Storm Skylar Diggins-Smith found her shooting rhythm late in the third and early into the fourth quarter allowing the storm to extend their lead to double digits securing the win.
