Daeshun Ruffin: From High School Star to Collegiate Setback at Jackson State

Head Coach Mo Williams’s first year as the Jackson State Men’s Head Basketball Coach, has the team moving in the right direction.  With a record of 14-19 overall and 12-6 in the conference.

Coach Williams Tigers basketball team will need to add a few more pieces to the team to make a run in the SWAC this upcoming season and possibly position themselves to play in the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Before the JSU Tigers get into conference play, they will compete against some teams that will be able to go deep into their bench subbing in fresh athletes to keep pressure on the JSU Tigers basketball team to secure a win.

Coach Williams was looking to add a play maker to the JSU Tigers men’s basketball team that will complement the tiger’s back-court moving the ball around the court and can get easy buckets in transition, pushing the pace up and down the court.

Daeshun Ruffin transferred from the University of Ole Miss Guard Daeshun Ruffin who is a combo guard will be out for the season due to an injury.  According to Ruffin’s social media page, he sustained an injury and will be out for the 2023-2024 basketball season.

Before arriving at Jackson State University, Daeshun Ruffin who is originally from the state of Mississippi played high school basketball at Callaway High School where he was a McDonald’s All-American.  He was the first McDonald’s All-American Signee in Callaway High School History.

Averaging 25.4 points during his high school career, playing under Callaway High School Men’s Basketball Coach David Sanders who is an alum of Ole Miss, Ruffin followed in his coach’s footsteps and attended Ole Miss to continue his basketball collegiate career.  While at Ole Miss, Ruffin played in 14 games his freshman season averaging 26 minutes per game with 3.4 assists and 2.3 steals per game.  During his sophomore campaign Ruffin played in 11 games averaging 18 minutes, 9.5 points 1.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.
