North Gwinnett Bulldogs vs Douglas County Tigers: Key Game Recap

These two top-tier Class 6A Georgia High School football programs are looking to raise their expectations from last season with a focus on playing in the Class 6A Georgia High School  Championship game at the end of the season.  The North Gwinnett Bulldogs lost some playmakers from last year’s team who graduated.  Former quarterback Ryan Hall was replaced by Elam Rahman, who is a dual-threat quarterback.

Douglas County defensemen Soloman Fabian and Semaj Flueylin played on North Gwinnett side of the offensive line for most of the game, disrupting the flow of the Bulldogs’ rushing attack on offense.  The Bulldogs used quarterback Elam Rahman and linebacker Jake Godfree in their rushing attack, hoping they could spread out the Tigers’ defense to open their rushing lanes. The Tigers’ defensive linebacker Steven Jones played as a spy, preventing Bulldogs Rahman Hall and Jake Godfree from having success rushing the ball.

The Tigers were able to score first in the game behind the tough running of Rah’Keith Kelly rushing touchdown.  The Bulldogs had opportunities to move the ball down the field and attempted to establish their passing game, but Bulldogs quarterback Rahman didn’t look comfortable in the pocket, and the receivers were having a hard time catching passes.  To make matters worse, on fourth down, Tigers linebacker Richard Dvce was able to block the Bulldogs’ punt, setting up the Tigers with great field possession.  On the ensuing play, Tigers Rah’Keith Kelly scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, putting the Tigers up 14-0 in the first quarter.

The Tigers took advantage of the Bulldogs’ miscues, scoring points, giving them a lead. The Bulldogs showed resilience and fought to get themselves out of the deficit, making it a game.  Bulldogs linebacker Jake Godfree was able to score a touchdown on a quarterback keeper, making the score 14-7.

The Tigers’ offense began to show some life with their rushing attack using quarterback Mike Johnson, and running back Zamarcus Lindley,  before throwing a pass to Johnson on a crossing route that he took to the endzone, making the score 21-7.  The Tigers had another opportunity to score more points before the half ran out of time.

Douglas County brought in backup quarterback Ryan Dvce, taking over for Mike Johnson after showing some discomfort during the second quarter while scrambling out of the pocket trying to make a play downfield.  Dvce fluently ran the offense making the necessary plays for the Tigers offense preventing them from giving the Bulldogs opportunity to get themselves back in the game.

The Bulldogs offense inability to catch passes and make plays on offense prevented them from winning this matchup against Douglas County losing  21-7.
