The 2025 MEAC/SWAC Football game is underway, and Southern University won the toss, deferring to the second half. North Carolina Central received the opening kickoff of the game and put together a scoring drive that capped off with a 13-play 80-yard rushing touchdown scoring drive by Arthur Rodgers, taking an early 7-0 lead in the game.
The Southern Jaguars weren’t going to be outdone by the Eagles’ rushing attack; the Jaguars were able to score on their opening drive of the game on a 63-yard scamper for a touchdown by dual-threat quarterback Cam’Ron McCoy, tying the game 7-7 on a three-play drive.
North Carolina Central quarterback Walker Harris fumbled the ball that was called a touchback after Southern University recovered the ball. Even though North Carolina Central didn’t score any points, they went on a 16-play drive that would be huge in the second half of the game. The Eagles were able to gain an early lead with a field goal by Kaleb Robinson on a 13-play drive. The Jaguars were able to take the lead behind Southern Mississippi University running back transfer Trey Holly, scoring on an 80-yard rushing touchdown. The Eagles running back Chris Mosley scored on a 49-yard rushing touchdown, regaining the lead with the score being 17-14 for the half.
The Eagles made the necessary adjustments during halftime, were able to shut out the Jaguars. The Eagles’ offense methodically moves the ball down the field for long scoring drives, keeping the Jaguars defense reeling. Eagles quarterback Harris Walker completed 22 passes for 186 yards with 1 touchdown that he threw to Kyle Morgan and Aleni Mageo scored a rushing touchdown for the Eagles in the game.

Southern University had an opportunity to score 9:47 left in the 4th quarter, but McCoy fumbled the ball, giving it back to the Eagles to run down the clock, making sure the Jaguars could not make any comeback. Many analysts thought the Jaguars’ defense would find a way to slow down the Eagles’ offense in this game. The Jaguars didn’t have much of an answer for what the Eagles wanted to do offensively at any time during the game. Southern defensive back Herman Brister III went out of the game early with a stinger. The Jaguars will walk away with a lot of things they will need to resolve to be in contention for making it back to the SWAC Championship.
The Jaguars play Mississippi Valley State next week and North Carolina Central play New Hampshire.
