This game was a battle between two teams that have the Rams as their mascot; definitely showed everyone that this game would come down to the very end. The last team standing would get the victory and would be top of the region. Its seems to be a common thing over the past few weeks, with teams being up at the half some how find a way to give the opposing team opportunities to win the game.
There were plays made by some play makers in this game between these two titans, but the over confidence by one cost them dearly. Grayson High School was up 14-10 at the half. The start of the third quarter, Newton High School football team was able to neutralize Grayson’s right side of the defense because it seem the offensive coordinator found a mismatch on that side of field allowing #8 for Newton High School to continue to rush the ball on that side of the field getting big gains. Grayson High School finally made some adjustments slowing down Newton High School run game causing them to punt. Newton County pouched the punt that went 15 yards setting up Grayson with great field position.
Grayson High School #3 showed he could rush the ball for the Grayson High School Rams as well, but it was #7 the Grayson Rams Quarterback who was able to score on a broken play increasing the Grayson Rams lead to 21-10. Grayson High School feeling they had the game well in hand late into the third quarter, began to get a little sloppy with their play on defense. The Grayson Rams defense was penalized with a un-sportsman like penalty giving Newton County offense a first down. Unfortunaltey the opportunities Newton County Rams offense was afforded they fell short , allowing Grayson High School to increase their lead to 27-10 with #21 rushing for 3 yards to score. Grayson High missed the extra point.
The score was 27-10 with 10:37 mins left to go in the 4th quarter and it seem things begin to change because Grayson High School offense was no longer aggressive as it was in the first three quarters, defense is missing assignments. Grayson High School cockiness begin to show because the intensity was there and that is when Newton High School caught Grayson High School off guard with a 70 yard touchdown pass from #3 to #19 with the score now being 27-17.
Remember I mentioned the cockiness Grayson High School began to show towards Newton High School got worse because the press box played Jay Z on to the next one and that began to arouse a spark in the Newton High School Rams football team because they began to move the ball more effectively and took advantage of the miss matches they had on the field. #2 from Newton County threw a dart to #3 bring the score to 27-24. Grayson High tried running the ball with there premiere running back #3 adn #21 coming up short because Newton County finally made the necessary adjustments to slow Grayson running game down.
Newton County got the ball back after Grayson was unable to move the ball down the field. Newton County went back to the mismatch that #3 had with anyone covering him on the field getting them in position to score the go ahead touchdown. The score is now 31-27 with Grayson looking to drive the ball down the field to win the game. Grayson came up short to win the game on the last play of the game from their 5 yard line and was penalized for holding pushing them back tot he 15 yard because they were penalized. Its 4th down and goal on the 15 and Grayson needs a tochdown to win the game. The pass is over thrown to the receiver in the back of the endzone. Newton County wins the game. Great play by both teams. The one thing anyone who was in attendance to watch the game would come away with and that is never under estimate your opponent.
