The 2024 Celebration Bowl has kicked off between Jackson State and South Carolina State with Jackson State deferring to receive the ball until the second half. For the first 15 minutes of the game, this game was everything Football Fans could have imagined from a defensive standpoint. Both teams offenses struggled to move the ball down the field until Jackson State was able to find their offensive rhythm moving the ball down the field.
Late in the first and into the second quarter, Jackson State’s offense began moving the ball down the field with Jacobian Morgan capping off a 9-minute 19-play scoring drive with a touchdown pass to Joanes Fortilien. Jackson State scoring drive along with the time of possession of the drive are both Celebration Bowl records.
South Carolina State quarterback Eric Phoenix had a rough first half moving the ball down the field against Jackson State stingy defense.Β The Bulldogs find themselves down 14-0, from a 67-yard pass caught by Isaiah Spencer who was tackled on the 1-yard line, followed up by a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Irv Mulligan before the half.
Β Bulldog fans look forward to Coach Berry and his coaching staff making the necessary adjustments to get the Bulldogs offense rolling in the second half of this game. The Bulldogs defense has played a bend but donβt break style of defense thus far but it will be difficult to keep the game within reach if the Bulldogs offense canβt find a way to give the defense time to rest by sustaining drives and scoring points in the game.Β
The second half of this game will come down to each team’s ability to make in-game adjustments that will allow them to score points to win the game. Jackson State defense has been able to get rest due to the long offensive drives keeping South Carolina State defense on the field for long stretches at a time.
