Alcorn State Women’s Basketball Advances to SWAC Championship

Alcorn State Women’s Head Coach Nate Kilbert stated they are headed back to the SWAC Tournament Championship for the second year in a row looking forward to finishing the mission after beating Texas Southern 65-55.  The Lady Braves Defensive stopper Destiny Brown decided to have a block party with 6 blocks adding 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists in the game.  https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/44251397

Destiny Brown the Lady Braves Forward was injured towards the end of the game when she attempted to catch an inbound pass and got tangled up with a Texas Southern Tigers player making a play on the ball bumped her head on the court when she fell. Coach Kilbert hopes she is ready to play tomorrow if she is available. 

Alcorn State’s defense forced Texas Southern to turn the ball over 12 times, scoring 19 points off the turnovers to increase their lead to 11 points at halftime.  The Lady Braves continued to extend their lead to 15 points late in the third quarter because the Tigers were held to scoring 8 points.

Deivejon Harris physical presence in the paint late in the game tried to keep Texas Southern close in the game scoring easy baskets and getting to the free-throw line but it wasn’t enough for the Tigers to win.  Jaida Belton scored 16 points, and Aylasia Fantroy scored 10 points.  Alcorn State hopes to win the SWAC Women’s Championship against the winner of the Jackson State vs. Southern University game.
